The Brief

Create a brand that communicates Blueprint’s ambition and seriousness whilst remaining genuinely collaborative. Working across multiple fields, the identity needed to reflect an image of trusted partners rather than competitors: rigorous, forward-thinking, able to act fast. A balance of optimism and professionalism laying the foundations for long-term credibility.

The Solution

We developed a visual identity that feels fresh, precise, and confident. Clean typography, a thoughtful colour system, and flexible graphic elements give Blueprint clear presence across reports, platforms, and data work. The result is a brand built for both ambition and trust, making complex biosecurity concepts both legible and actionable.

Colour Palette & Visual Messaging

Typography

The typographic voice speaks in IBM Plex throughout: Sans, Serif, and Mono. An eminently sensible and flexible family that can handle everything from policy papers to lab reports.

Illustrations

The illustrations draw from blueprint traditions: grids, line work, and a structural clarity that grounds the entire identity. Neither decoration nor pastiche, it really tells the story of Blueprint’s what and how. Whether showing emerging technologies or policy frameworks, the illustrations turn complex concepts into useful visuals.

Programs

The identity extends to three core programs, each with its own sub-brand that sits comfortably within the broader system.

Website

Designed to present complex research clearly and credibly. A restrained layout keeps reports and strategy documents front and centre, with flexible templates that let the identity scale across new programs and outputs.

Publications

Publications drive much of Blueprint’s impact, from technical reports to strategic roadmaps. We designed an editorial system that feels both authoritative and approachable: clear typography, restrained colour, and illustrations that make complex ideas genuinely legible. Subtle graphic elements tie everything back to the Blueprint brand whilst allowing program-specific variation.

Data Visualisation

For Blueprint’s more technical work, we developed graphics that handle greater complexity. Whilst the core brand prioritises clarity, these allow for layered detail: charts, models, and schematics that communicate nuanced findings without sacrificing rigour.
