The Roots of Progress Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to building a culture of progress for the 21st century.


Brief

In 2024, Jason Crawford's original "Roots of Progress" blog grew into the Roots of Progress Institute. With limited existing brand collateral—but strong recognition and respect in the Progress Studies community—we were tasked with creating the Institute a defined, individual identity representative of its long-range vision and mission.

Solution

The new identity visualises “root causes,” evoking life, growth, and flourishing. The logo's inverted symmetry reflects the logic, structure, and clarity the Institute brings to the progress discourse, setting intentions for the future. Our existing fellowship brand was also refreshed to be brought in line with the wider Institute branding, ensuring a cohesive look across all brand assets.

Colour Palette & Visual Messaging

Typography

The combination of Palast Display and F37 Grotesc was chosen for the Roots of Progress Institute brand to create a balance between elegance and modernity, with Palast Display offering a bold, sophisticated aesthetic for headlines, while F37 Grotesc provides a clean, functional look for body text, ensuring readability and versatility.

AI-generated illustrations of utopia are used to visually convey an idealised, forward-thinking vision of progress and innovation.

The Blog-Building Intensive Fellowship mirrors the Institute's commitment to progress by helping writers refine their ideas, develop new skills, and expand their reach, all while fostering growth through collaborative feedback and learning.
